What We Love About Gahanna, Ohio
Gahanna, a suburban area of Columbus, Ohio has had significant growth throughout the 90’s and moderate growth within the 2000’s. In 2010, the population was 33,248 and also the town is comprised of approximately 12.6 sq. miles. The City of Gahanna is within the Gahanna-Jefferson Public school district that consists of seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and one highschool, Lincoln highschool. Gahanna was based on the big Walnut Creek in 1849 by John Clark of Ross County from 800 acres of land that his father, Joseph Clark, had purchased from Governor Worthington in 1814. Clark named his property the Gahanna Plantation, from that the City of Gahanna derives its name. The name Gahanna springs from a Native American word for three creeks joining into one and is the former name of the big Walnut Creek. The City of Gahanna's Official Seal refers to this confluence of three creeks with the inscription "Three In One".
In recent years, Gahanna has worked hard at revitalizing the downtown "Olde Gahanna" section of town. In October 2004, Gahanna's new Creekside Gahanna improvement and park extension project began, making way for everything from public areas and restaurants to residences and workplace space. As recently as 2007, the project businesses began to open. The realm includes a 389-space public parking garage. The multi-million dollar project is predicted to usher in up to a hundred and fifty new residents likewise as bolster tourism to the area.
Gahanna was listed as #96 of the top one hundred Best Places to live in 2007 by money magazine. Among the businesses based mostly in Gahanna is the utility company AEP Ohio.
